A fund is being established in the honor of Cpl. Brandon M. Craig's memory at Cecil Federal Savings Bank c/o Christy Biggs, PO Box 389, Cecilton, MD 21913, to provide assistance to service personnel and their families.

This memorial website was created in the memory of our loved one, Brandon Craig who was born in Maryland on March 11, 1982 and passed away on July 19, 2007 at the age of 25. We will remember him forever.

Pfc. Brandon M. Craig, 25, of Earleville, Md., died July 19 in Husayniyah, Iraq, of wounds sustained from an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Helen and Harry Giovan Jr. and his uncle, Harry Giovan III. Along with his parents, Danny and Jane Craig of Earleville, Cpl. Craig is survived by his wife of 5 months and love of his life, Spec. Jodi M. Craig of Ft. Lewis, WA; a sister, Amber Craig at home; a brother and sister-in-law, Ryan and Brandy Craig of Smyrna, DE; his paternal grandparents, Nancy and Reggie Craig of Earleville, MD; a nephew, Blake Craig; and his best friends and brothers-in-arms, who have been together since basic training, Pfc. Jed Glover and Pfc. Howard Redmond.

Cpl. Brandon Craig of Earlville was victim of improvised explosive device

A 25-year-old soldier from Cecil County was killed in Iraq on Thursday when a roadside bomb exploded and struck the vehicle he was riding.

Army Cpl. Brandon Craig of Earlville was a graduate of Bohemia Manor High School and had been serving in Iraq since April. A private first class before his death, he was posthumously promoted to corporal.

"He was a great gentleman and a great young man," said his grandfather, Reginald Craig of Earlville.

Corporal Craig enlisted in February last year and completed initial training at Fort Benning, Ga., before reporting to Fort Lewis in Washington state. There he was assigned to the 4th Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division.

He died of wounds suffered when an improvised explosive device went off in Husayniyah, according to a statement from Fort Lewis.

Last month, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Valor for acting bravely when his unit came under attack while patrolling south of Tarmiyah in the Sunni Triangle.

"His quick thinking and action without concern for his own safety prevented the loss of any soldiers or equipment," a Fort Lewis spokeswoman said.

After his death, the Army added an oak leaf cluster to the medal.

His wife, Jodi Craig, is also a soldier. She is assigned to the 23rd Chemical Battalion at Fort Lewis.
